IMS / Dry Needling in White Rock
Instantly relieve severe, chronic musculoskeletal pain and debilitating spasming by directly deactivating myofascial trigger points.
Deep Relief for Neuropathic Tension
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), most commonly known as Dry Needling, is an incredibly effective, scientifically proven technique used by highly-trained physiotherapists to treat chronically tight or spasming muscle bands.
Unlike traditional Chinese acupuncture which focuses entirely on energy pathways (Qi), IMS is strictly rooted in Western neurophysiological principles. Our specialized therapists use ultra-fine needles to physically penetrate stiff, contracted "trigger points." This instantly forces the muscle tissue to sharply reflex, safely hit the reset button, and completely relax.

Incredible Results For:
IMS safely bypasses the skin surface to access pain reservoirs that generic massage simply cannot reach.

The Needling Methodology
A highly-certified, strictly sterile process designed entirely for lasting tension release.
1. Palpation Mapping
The physiotherapist uses their hands to precisely locate the tight, fibrous bands hidden deep within the muscle tissue.
2. Sterile Insertion
Using completely sanitary, single-use monofilament needles, they gently bypass the skin barrier to enter the muscle core.
3. The Twitch Response
The needle forces the irritated nerve to discharge, causing a sudden, distinct muscle 'twitch' that breaks the cycle of spasm.
4. Neurological Reset
Immediately following the twitch, the muscle fibers stretch back to their natural length, restoring mobility and killing pain instantly.
Release Years of Built-up Tension
Don't let deep-rooted muscle knots restrict your mobility. Dry Needling can rapidly resolve months of nagging pain in just a few sessions. Book your specialized appointment in White Rock today.

Frequently Asked Questions
How exactly is this different from traditional acupuncture?expand_more
While they share the exact same physical tool (the monofilament needle), the philosophy is radically different. Acupuncture modifies energy flows (Qi) lying just beneath the skin. Dry Needling is strictly based on Western medical science, actively probing deeply into tight muscular anatomy to trigger physical, mechanical twitch responses to relax nerves.
Does it hurt when the needle is inserted?expand_more
The needles are profoundly thin (thinner than a hair). You typically feel a tiny prick on the skin, but you rarely feel the needle moving inside the muscle. However, when the needle touches the actual trigger point, the muscle will suddenly "cramp" or "twitch"—this is an odd, intense, deep aching sensation that lasts a few seconds, immediately followed by enormous relief.
What should I expect right after the treatment?expand_more
It is exceptionally common to feel a deep muscular soreness (similar to the feeling after an intense workout) over the treated area. This soreness usually dissipates entirely within 12 to 24 hours, giving way to significantly improved flexibility and drastically reduced baseline pain.
Is everyone allowed to receive Dry Needling?expand_more
No. We conduct a strict contraindication screening first. Patients who are in their first trimester of pregnancy, suffer from severe blood clotting disorders (like hemophilia), have severe needle phobia, or have active systemic infections cannot safely receive this treatment.
